Candice Meredith lost her father Yogi Casas to a battle with cancer. Saturday night marked the fifth anniversary of the annual Cancer Sucks Party in his honor. Beneficiaries of the event include Live Strong and the Cancer Foundation for Life. Meredith also participates in cycling events raising awareness for cancer. She attaches ribbons with names of individuals with cancer to the back of her jersey.
“I’m a cancer survivor,” said Eddie Vaughn. “I’m about nine and a half years out from non hodgkin’s lymphoma and I’ve been supporting this cause ever since they started.”
“My dad was diagnosed in 2005 with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer,” said Candice Meredith. “It is emotional. I find that a lot of people when you go through cancer it’s tough. It is such a tough journey to live through and I think that so many people probably enjoy a break from it but I have never been able to do that. It’s just a drive in me.”
Meredith says she’s looking forward to the funds being put to use in her own community.
